- The main square is Piazza Tasso, where stands a statue of the Torquato Tasso Renaissance poet, to whom Sorrento gave birth. From here, the Caracteristic and very beautiful main streets of the old city begin. Sorrento overlooks the gulf of Naples: When you arrive at the terraces overlooking the sea, you are faced with Vesuvius and Naples to your left. Along the coast of Sorrento THERE ARE THE tufa cliffs, vertical, very high and of breathtaking beauty. Below, there is the port where the hydrofoils arrive and the beaches of Sorrento, with the traditional “bagni” with cabins, umbrellas and sunbeds. There are ancient shipyards that still build and restore the most beautiful wooden fishing boats in the Gulf of Naples.
- The Correale di Terranova Museum is located in an ancient aristocratic palace, Palazzo Correale
(Via Correale 12; Wed – Mon from 9 to 14). The private collection of the Correale family includes Neapolitan, Flemish and Dutch paintings; precious clocks and Capodimonte porcelain, Sorrentino inlaid furniture and important ancient finds. It is a small and delightful museum, never crowded by tourists. A secret jewel, which can be visited in an hour.
